Sandwell Community School is a multi-site Alternative Provision school for KS3 and KS4 students. Most of our students have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools or are at risk of exclusion. SCS has undergone significant changes to better meet these challenges and demands. This overview highlights our new approach, blending our Main to Personal Effectiveness program with the launch of COR—our brand new Centres of Recovery Education, designed to further support student development and recovery.
COR-i Centre of Learning for INCLUSION @ Wednesbury Intent ……. (Centre Hours – 9am to 2.30pm and Friday 9am to 1.30pm)……..
COR-i is a multi-functional centre focused on promoting inclusion. It provides personalised programs tailored to meet the academic, personal, and social needs of students with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP). A highly skilled team conducts a variety of baseline and diagnostic assessments to identify barriers to learning and determine the best support to help students progress. The information gathered is used to create a detailed Student Profile, which aids in their smooth transition through the educational system. COR-i offers flexible placements, both short and long-term, for dual and single registered students, whether they need assessment or ongoing support to secure an EHCP or placement in a specialist school.
COPE Centre of Learning @ Smethwick Intent ……. (Centre Hours – 9am to 2.30pm and Friday 9am to 1.30pm)………
COPE provides intensive support for students who need a more nurturing environment. Many of these students face challenges such as school phobia, low self-esteem, or involvement with external agencies. The COPE team supports both KS3 and KS4 students, whether dual or single registered, and works closely with their families to develop strategies that help overcome educational barriers and enhance personal effectiveness. COPE also serves as a foundation for students transitioning into KS5, focusing on re-engaging them in full-time college placements or, alternatively, offering apprenticeships through SCS
Main School @ West Bromwich Intent ……. (Centre Hours – 9am to 2.30pm and Friday 9am to 1.30pm)……
This Centre of Learning offers an ambitious academic curriculum, closely aligned with mainstream education, while placing additional emphasis on well-being and personal development programs. The MAIN centre is designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills for future success. At SCS, students not only enhance their personal, social, and academic abilities but also develop their cultural capital. Both dual and single registered students have the opportunity to reintegrate into mainstream education or remain with SCS, focusing on securing qualifications and preparing for post-16 provision.
COR-t Centre of Learning for WELL-BEING @ Tividale Intent ……. (Centre Hours – 9am to 2.30pm and Friday 9am to 1.30pm)……..
COR-t provides a nurturing environment aimed at reducing problem behaviors and promoting positive life choices both in the classroom and beyond. This short-stay provision serves as a preventative strategy for mainstream schools to reduce the risk of permanent exclusion. The Centre of Learning supports students from KS2, KS3, and KS4, following a therapeutic model alongside the delivery of core subjects like English and Mathematics.
At SCS one thing is clear that “Together we can CREATE EXCELLENCE”
